Paschal Walthall

Induction Year: 1986

Paschal Walthall (1915–1992) was a significant figure in the Texas tennis community, dedicating his life to the sport's development and promotion. He began playing tennis at 15 and quickly showcased his talent by winning both the state high school singles championship and the state junior championship during his senior year at San Antonio's Thomas Jefferson High School.

Recognizing his potential, Dr. Daniel A. Penick extended an invitation to Walthall to attend the University of Texas on a partial scholarship. During his time at UT, Walthall not only excelled on the court but also contributed off it by serving as the ranking chairman of the Texas Tennis Association.

In 1946, Walthall's passion for tennis led him to co-found the San Antonio Tennis Association (SATA) alongside a group of local players. He was instrumental in drafting the organization's first constitution and bylaws and served as its president, laying a strong foundation for tennis education and development in the region.
