Art Foust

Induction Year: 1987

Art Foust (1937–1987) was an American tennis player, coach, and educator whose contributions significantly impacted the tennis community in Texas.

Born in 1937, Foust moved to Houston, Texas, with his family at the age of 11. He began playing tennis at 13 and quickly developed a passion for the sport. Foust attended Rice Institute (now Rice University), where he distinguished himself as a formidable player by winning numerous major collegiate titles.

After his successful collegiate career, Foust dedicated himself to teaching and coaching tennis. He became an active member of several tennis organizations, including the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation, contributing to the development of young players and the promotion of tennis in the region.

In 1986, Foust received the W.T. Caswell Service Award, recognizing his outstanding service to tennis in Texas. His commitment to sportsmanship and player development was further honored when USTA Texas established the Art Foust Sportsmanship Award in his name.
