Robert Webster "Bob" Curtis

Induction Year: 1992

Bob Curtis (1920–2007) was a remarkable tennis player whose talent and dedication left an enduring legacy in the sport. Born in 1920, Curtis grew up in Texas, where his exceptional skills on the court became evident early in his life. He dominated high school tennis while at Houston Reagan  High School, winning the Texas UIL Boys’ Singles Championship for three consecutive years (1936, 1937, and 1938).

Curtis continued his tennis career at Rice Institute (now Rice University), where he further distinguished himself as a formidable competitor. He claimed three Southwest Conference doubles titles during his collegiate career. In 1947, Curtis achieved national prominence by winning the NCAA National Doubles Championship alongside his close friend and partner Sammy Match.

Curtis’ contributions to tennis earned him recognition beyond his playing days. In addition to his induction into the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame, he was honored by the Rice University Hall of Fame, a testament to his enduring impact on the institution’s athletic program.
